Columbus, Ohio (February 23, 2007)—Redemtech, a leading provider of Technology Change Management (TCM) services, announced today it is establishing a Security and Asset Protection Practice to strengthen its industry-leading security offering. The newly created position will be responsible for auditing Redemtech and customer practices for physical security and chain-of-custody control of data-bearing assets along the entire supply chain. This will enable Redemtech, which serves many privacy regulated companies in banking, healthcare, and insurance, to continue to tighten off-network security practices for IT asset disposition and to proactively assist clients in identifying and closing physical and data security gaps in their enterprise.
“Redemtech has worked closely with our clients to develop a suite of off-network security offerings that have become best practices in the industry,” said Bob Houghton, president of Redemtech. “This new position enables us to be more proactive in helping our clients integrate these best practices into their organizations and audit compliance, minimizing the risk of costly and damaging security breaches.”
Redemtech was the first asset disposition company to offer certified data erasure, delivering compliance-ready verification of data destruction. Redemtech offers a range of secure transportation options and recently teamed with Brink’s, Inc., to provide armed-guard protection of the most sensitive data-bearing assets during transit. The company has also developed processes to help clients manage inventories to eliminate stockpiles of idle equipment, which are vulnerable to loss or theft.
“As the cost and occurrence of data security breaches continue to rise, so does the need for our clients to have access to a host of off-network security solutions,” Houghton said. “The cost per-privacy related breach averages $10 million, and with regulations growing and becoming more stringent, now more than ever it’s essential to our clients and our business that we form this security practice area under the direction of an accomplished security professional.”
Greg Sewell to Lead Security Practice Area
Redemtech recruited Greg Sewell to lead the new area as the Practice Adviser, Security and Asset Protection. This new position addresses concerns regarding the challenge of protecting privacy-regulated and other confidential information from loss or theft. In his new role, Sewell will serve the dual purpose of managing Redemtech’s security policies and processes as well as consulting with customers’ to identify and eliminate security gaps.
Sewell is the counterpart to Redemtech’s Environmental Practice Adviser, who leads the development of the company’s environmental stewardship policies and procedures, including vetting of downstream material handling and recycling processes to ensure compliance with Redemtech and customer policies against the landfill, export or incineration of electronic waste.
“Redemtech is setting new standards for data security of computer assets removed from the network,” Sewell said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to use my experience and training to help consult our clients on protection against costly and damaging asset and data security breaches.”
Sewell’s current engagements include conducting a physical and data security audit for a large, international insurance and financial services company, as well as providing consulting services to a leading service provider to the U.S. government for a large asset recovery project.
As the Security and Asset Protection Practice Adviser, Sewell’s other responsibilities include:
- Auditing Redemtech’s logistics partners for adherence to security standards, which includes scheduled and surprise inspections
- Auditing customers’ physical and data security processes in accordance with corporate policy and regulatory requirements
- Developing a comprehensive business assurance model to measure enterprise risk mitigation processes for Redemtech and its customers
- Providing subject matter expertise to Redemtech employees and customers on emerging technologies, services, methodologies and trends pertaining to physical IT asset and data security
Sewell previously served as a security specialist with Cardinal Health, number 19 on FORTUNE Magazine’s list of America’s largest corporations, where he provided corporate security consultation and support to more than 200 facilities. He also serves as an Assistant Operations Non-Commissioned Officer to the Ohio Army National Guard in Columbus, Ohio. Sewell’s training and professional development includes courses and instruction from the American Society for Industrial Security, International, where he has been an active member since 2003.
