Columbus, Ohio (June 10, 2005)—Redemtech, a global outsourcer providing Technology Change Management (TCM) services to Global 1000 companies, announced today that it has successfully completed the implementation of its Environmental Management System (EMS) by achieving registration to the international standard ISO 14001. The registration was confirmed through BSI Management Systems, an independent organization that assesses the effectiveness of a company’s EMS for conformance to the globally recognized environmental management standard published by the Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
A world-class environmental management system was considered an imperative for Redemtech, widely considered as the gold standard for environmental policy in the asset management industry. “Redemtech already stands on the leading edge of environmental advocacy with our commitment to landfill avoidance, zero-export policy for shipping electronic waste to developing countries, stringent vendor vetting programs, and technology reuse over recycling philosophy,” said Redemtech President and Founder Robert Houghton. “A strong EMS helps us ensure Redemtech clients are in full compliance with all U.S. and international standards for the management of electronic scrap.”
In April 2004, Redemtech also received approval of its Electronics Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship. The Pledge calls for recyclers to uphold the world’s most rigorous environmental and social criteria for the dismantling and recycling of electronic waste (e-waste), one of the fastest growing portions of America’s waste stream. “As an ISO 14001 registered signatory of the Pledge, Redemtech is in a class of its own in the asset management industry,” said Eric Vetrano, Redemtech Sr. Vice President of Operations. “We have made a very clear statement regarding our environmental policy and the degree to which we are committed to upholding the very high industry standards that we have in part helped create.”
Redemtech’s ISO 14001 certification goals are ambitious – and forward-thinking. In addition to underlying commitments – to comply with current legislation, to prevent environmental impairment, and to continually improve their EMS – the company is committed to bringing environmental best practices to its customers. “We have set up commercially viable targets for environmental improvement and a management program to achieve them, with regular reviews for continual improvement,” said Vetrano, adding that it “benchmarks our performance to class standards, improves productivity and efficiency, and provides corporate accountability measurements not only for Redemtech, but for the customers we serve.”
According to Houghton, Redemtech has set a new standard for environmental advocacy. “ISO 14001 certification is the right thing to do to help our customers meet their environmental obligations and protect their reputation globally.”
First published in 1996, ISO 14001 is designed to help companies manage their environmental responsibilities and improve their environmental performance. The standard details tangible requirements for an environmental management system that addresses the impact a company’s activities have on the environment. It also specifies the steps the company can take to manage that impact and the goals it can develop to continually improve its environmental performance. The overall goal of the standard is to empower companies to manage their environmental responsibilities so they become more efficient and more integrated into routine business processes and operations.
