Pioneering Best Practices in IT Asset Management – 10 Years and Running
Environmental sustainability is the “new” corporate watchword, but it has been at the core of Redemtech’s business from the beginning. Since our inception in July of 1996, we have supported – and often helped develop – the best practices that define environmentally and socially responsible IT asset management. And while we have expanded beyond our original role as “The Enterprise Solution to Technology Recycling” over the past decade, we are still just as committed to environmental sustainability.
In celebrating 10 years of operations, we have quantified some of the ways in which Redemtech has made a difference in the world, including:
Energy Savings

Saving enough electricity to power nearly every household in the city of Dallas for an entire year.
|
 |
Carbon Reduction

Reducing greenhouse gases equal to removing more than 300,000 passenger cars from the road per year.

Raising the Bar for Environmental Stewardship – Again
Redemtech continues to set performance and regulatory compliance standards that benefit our clients worldwide and move the industry forward. Our Ecosure™ environmental management program was designed to support the highest levels of corporate social responsibility and sustainability—and has the certifications to prove that it is achieving that goal.
ISO 14001 Certification for Environmental Management
ISO certification can be a rigorous process that is designed to ensure an organization has the processes in place to deliver consistent quality.
Redemtech proactively applied for and achieved ISO 14001 certification for our Environmental Management System (EMS). This certification provides independent third-party validation that we have the processes in place to support our policies and gives our clients added confidence in our ability to secure and manage their assets.

The Electronics Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship
Redemtech is a charter signatory of The Electronics Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship as developed by the Electronics TakeBack Coalition, which includes the Basel Action Network (BAN) and the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition (SVTC). In doing so, Redemtech voluntarily agreed to meet the world’s strictest standards for the handling of e-waste. Redemtech was not only able to meet the requirements of the Pledge without changing our processes—our standards actually exceeded those of the Pledge.
Redemtech further enhances the requirements of the Pledge by offering complementary asset management services to extend equipment lifecycles and increase utilization, providing financial savings that more than offset the incremental costs associated with truly responsible e-waste management.

IDC Green Recycling and Asset Disposal for the Enterprise (G.R.A.D.E.) Certification
Redemtech was among the first group of companies to achieve IDC’s Green Recycling and Asset Disposal for the Enterprise (G.R.A.D.E.) Certification. IDC independently evaluated 25 leading IT asset disposition (ITAD) providers based on 34 functions and tasks related to remote applications, onsite services, logistics, in-plant processing and post treatment. Redemtech was one of only two non-OEMS to be accorded G.R.A.D.E. certification as a result of our significant investments in establishing sound IT asset recovery and disposal processes. Again, our current processes didn’t just meet the G.R.A.D.E. standards—they exceeded the minimum 75 percent passing grade required.

Driving Increased Donations to Charitable Recipients
As the first commercial Community Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (Community MAR) in North America, Redemtech is helping to create an efficient channel for used computers stockpiled in corporate enterprises to reach needy schools, nonprofits and charities across the globe.
The Community MAR program is designed to increase the number of PCs available to charities by significantly reducing prohibitive operating system costs. In achieving MAR, Redemtech can install select versions of the Windows® operating system for a nominal administration fee. Not-for-profit demand for good low- or no-cost working computers is significant, estimated at 28 million in the United States alone.
The Community MAR program is administered by TechSoup, a technology and information resource to the nonprofit community. Redemtech has teamed with TechSoup to launch the Refurbished Computer Initiative (RCI) and increase corporate donations of used computers. As part of this initiative, Redemtech now offers free asset recovery and recycling services to charitable organizations that receive donated technology, helping our clients to absolve e-waste liability concerns at end of life.
Providing the automated processing and data security required for regulatory compliance, plus free recycling services, Redemtech is making charitable donation a win-win for business and the community … and benefiting the environment as well by giving new life to computers that may otherwise be destined for disposal.

Increasing Reuse, PC Lifecycles and Customer Value
An evolution of Redemtech’s relationship with Microsoft, the new Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) program is tailored to the needs of large refurbishers, like Redemtech, that want to deliver preinstalled genuine Windows XP software licenses on refurbished PCs sold in the commercial market.
Redemtech had been asking Microsoft for a program like MAR that gives enterprises and consumers similar low-cost opportunities for license compliance that schools and non-profits currently enjoy through the Community MAR program. Now, Redemtech can fully refurbish laptops and desktops with genuine Microsoft software:
- Brings you even higher return on remarketed assets
- Provides better equipment for redeployment - reducing new purchase costs
- Offers ready supply and low-cost alternative for day-to-day demand and special projects
The MAR program provides for the choice of either Windows XP Professional Edition or Windows XP Home Edition operating systems, includes a new Certificate of Authenticity (COA), Recovery Media pack and an End User License Agreement (EULA) in a slim-line DVD case, plus web-based support services, access to downloads, updates and enhanced features from Microsoft.
Redemtech was one of a select group of refurbishers chosen by Microsoft to launch this program, demonstrating the requisite capabilities including:
- A track record of supplying an average of 5,000 refurbished PCs per month
- The technical competence required to preinstall Windows operating systems
- Appropriate security measure in place to ensure the safe storage and handling of COAs
- Adequate systems for data wiping and reporting, including conformance to Department of Defense (DoD) or similar data wiping standard
- Conformance with applicable local health, safety and environmental regulations
